I had wanted to try the cake in the jar but did not really have a chance to. While waiting for my vendor,I decided to roam around The Central. Spotted this cafe, Stay Home Mum Cafe (SHMC).

I decided to try out out their cake in the jar. The lady boss recommended one of their best sellers, Jelly Jar. According to the lady boss, their cakes were all freshly baked daily in their shop.

I love the different layer of colors.

Huge heart-shaped strawberry

The heart-shaped strawberry remind me of the heart-shaped strawberry sushi that someone did for me before in the past. I simply adore heart-shaped strawberry. It really take a lot of effort to cut the strawberry into heart shape.

The jelly jar was made up three different layer. The base of the jelly jar was made up biscuit. I think they used digestive biscuit. It have the very slight touch of saltiness which made the whole jelly jar to another level. The second layers was surprising made by marshmallow instead of the normal cheese cake or sponge cake. It simply does not taste like marshmallow. It was creamy and rich. It just melt in mouth. In our perception, marshmallows are very sweet. Fear not, this marshmallow was simply perfect. It not very sweet and you will not get sick of it. It definitely will make you ask for more. The top layer was strawberry jelly.

The strawberry jelly was done up perfectly too. It is not too soft.

I simply love Stay Home Mum Cafe's Jelly Jar ! I really wish to try out their other favors.

I decided to create my own scent using a combination of Lavender, Rasberry Ripple and White Tea. I was amazed by how they melts and combined together the pretty pink candle.

End Product

The scent which I have gotten in the end was surprisingly nice. It was not to strong. It had the lightly lavender scent which help in relaxation and the sweetness from the raspberry. The melted hotties allowed me to use for almost 2 weeks with everyday of burning. You don't need to worry that the scents will be gone after multiple times of burning. It still filled my room atmosphere with the sweet relaxing scent.

Straits Cafe at Hotel Rendezvous is having $48 nett dinner buffet National Day promotion. It only valid from 7 Aug to 11 Aug 2013.

Me and my boyfriend decided to try out the buffet as Straits Cafe. It had always been very crowded whenever we passed by. Straits Cafe is famous for the Award-winning Nonya Laska as while as their durian desserts.

Let's bring you through the buffet spread..

Salad counter

I felt that the choice of the salad toppings were quite limited.They only offer shredded carrots, corn kernels and alfalfa. However, they had quite a good range of salad sauces.

The choice of the seafood counter also have limited choices. You will be able to have a choice of prawns,crabs, gong gong, mussels.

Oyster lovers !! Please take note of this. The oysters that are provided in Straits Cafe are only open upon request of order. You will be able to have the freshest oysters. I am not a fan of oyster therefore did not try out. If you have tried their oysters, please share with me the taste and freshness of it.

The spread of the cooked food was not bad. It had quite a good spread of the different type of meat and seafood.

This is the most important section of the every buffet. I just simply love desserts. They have quite a fair bit of different variety of the desserts. They served up new type of desserts when one had been finished.

Most importantly, their durian desserts. Even thought, the spread was limited but it was just nice to accommodate the others.

My first plate

The prawns were super fresh. The sweetness and juiciness of the prawn just burst in your mouth. The flesh of the prawns were springy in texture with a slightly hint of crunch. It definite will leave you wanting for more.

The mango salad were too sour and were not to my liking.The other appetizers does not really tasted very fantastic.

I tried to other dishes in small bites. However, I felt that it were normal.

As for the award winning Nonya Laska, it really did not disappoint me. The soup base was thick and fragrance. The amount of coconut milk and chill was just right to bring out the flavor. It is not too spicy. The noodle was springy and it adsorb the essence of the soup. Every bites was flavorful.

The barbecue big head prawn was one of the hot item in the buffet spread. The plate of freshly barbecue prawn can be gone with seconds when it were being served out. I managed to get one before it were gone again. Sadly to say, I was disappointed with the barbecue prawn. The flesh were soft and breaking into small pieces. I still prefer the cold prawns.

Durian Pengat, Durian Cake, Durian Puff, Durian Crepes

Out of all the durian desserts, I love their durian pengat. It simply amazing. Every mothful was fill with the durian and you can taste the slight fiber of the durian flesh. It were not very sweet too. Durian lover will definitely love their durian pengat.

Overall, I felt that buffet spread were quite limited. I does not really know what to eat after my second round of food. However, the service level was great. The staff were very alert on the dirty plates on the tables and clear it very frequently. They also top up the ice water frequently too. Thumbs up for their service level.

Pow sing was started by Mr Lee Chin Soo & Mr Steven Tan in the year 1983. Being traditional Hanianese they wanted to share with Singapore the true taste of "Haninaese Chicken Rice" and hence "Pow Sing Hainanese Chinken Rice" stall was opened at Serangoon Garden.

In the year 1989,they felt that they could do more to promote Singapore food and so they hired a traditional Nonya Chef and came up with "Pow Sing Restaurant"

Ah-char

Instead of the normal sweet and sourish ah char that we use to have. The ah-char that was served have this lightly curry flavor. It were very appetizing.

Nonya Cabbage Roll

The crunchy cabbage wrapped with otah make the dish have a different level of flavor. The cabbages were sweet and infuse with the curry sauce made the dish very tasteful.

Hainanese Chicken

$5 per serving

The Hainanese Chicken was tender. However, it was not smooth enough.

Crispy Nonya Toufu

The Crispy Nonya Toufu was heavenly. Even thought it was as very crispy. But the Toufu simply just melt in your mouth, as if you are eating beadcurd.

Fish Head Curry

The fish head curry was one of Pow Sing's signature dishes. Instead of the normal curry, the fish head curry had a touch of assam taste. It slight sourness made it more appetizing. The amounts of assorted vegetables were very generous too. The most important part of the fish head curry was the fish head. The fish was very fresh and the meat was tender. Even thought it was being cooked in curry, you still will be able to taste the sweetness of the fish. I strongly recommended their Fish Head Curry.

Nonya Chap Chye

The Nonya Chap Chye tasted average. The vegetable were all soaked with the sauce.However, there is a slight bitterness which i dont really like.

Prawns with Traditional Nonya Sauce

The prawns were one of my favorite dishes too. Not only that the prawns were fresh and well cooked. I love the tastefulness of the prawn that is cooked in the traditional Nonya sauce. The spicyness were just right, it did not overpower the natural taste of the prawns.

End your meal with their chedol.

Ever since, my boyfriend started working as an interior designer, we seldom have much time together.

It was super rare for us to have dinner together especially on an weekend.

We decided to check out our favorite sukiyaki & shabu shabu resturant, Suki-Ya. This is not the first time I dine or write about Suki-ya.

Why I love dining in Suki-ya ? It allows me to enjoy the good and healthy food while spending time with my love ones. I love the chatting and interacting with them while waiting for the food to be cooked. Lastly, I love to shabu shabu the thinly sliced meats.

We went to Suki-ya at Marina Square which had been newly renovated and relocated recently. Previously, it was located at the level 1 of Marina Square, right under the food court. They had relocated to the new dining wing. If you are able to spot "Manhattan Fish Market", you will be able to see Suki-ya.

The newly opened restaurant had a larger space catering more towards bigger groups of customers. I love the U-shaped cubicles dining concept. It allow you to have some privacy with your friends.

Time for food..

I love the wide ranges of vegetables as well as other ingredients. Strongly recommend to have their signature cheese ball. It's really yummy.

Suki-ya Marine Square had newly launched the curry soup base only for weekend. According to the staff, the curry soup base is only available in Marine Square. I love the innovation idea of using curry for shabu shabu. It is a definite must-try soup base when you dine in during weekend.

The curry soup base had become my next love other than my favorite suki-ya and miso soup base. Instead of the normal watery curry we usually had. The curry is thick but not gluey. You will be able to spot small pieces of onions in the soup base which give it a richer flavor. I love the curry after all the essence from all the ingredients were added in. It had the natural slight sweet taste from the vegetables. How I wish i can have a bowl of rice to accompany the curry. It also goes completely well with the udon noodles. You can create your own verison of curry udon with your favorite ingredients from the healthy bar.
